Sweet and Spicy Gochujang Cauliflower

Updated: Oct 5

Is there a better way to enjoy cauliflower than this breaded sweet and spicy Korean inspired cauliflower dish?!

I have tried many different kind of cauliflower dishes, but this is by far one of my most favorite take on cauliflower! (especially when I am craving meaty dishes!)

Currently, I am only purchasing and using frozen cauliflower, but feel free to substitute fresh ones!

This dish is the perfect dish to pair with more vegetables and side of rice or even soup!

Sweet and Spicy Gochujang Cauliflower

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 45 minutes

Servings: 2-4 servings

INGREDIENTS:

Sauce:

Cauliflower:

  • 2-4 cups frozen or fresh cauliflower florets

  • Neutral oil, for pan frying or oven

  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Batter

  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 cup room temperature water

Coating

  • 1 1/2- 2 cup breadcrumbs

SHOP MY INGREDIENTS:

INSTRCUTIONS:

  1. Place all of the sauce ingredients together in a bowl. Mix until combined and set aside.

  2. In another separate bowl, mix the ingredients for the batter together until smooth.

  3. In another bowl or flat tray, add bread crumbs.

  4. If using fresh cauliflower, dip each raw florets into the batter and coat with breadcrumbs. Set aside once coated.

  5. Heat a frying pan with some oil for shallow frying. Once oil is hot, put in the cauliflower florets and cook until golden brown, moving it around on each side every 2 minutes or so. (For shallow frying, I also bake in oven at 350F for another 30-40 min for extra crispy. You can totally skip frying and just bake in the oven for 35-45 minutes or until golden brown!)

  6. In another pan, add in the sweet and spicy sauce and leave to simmer over medium heat, stir constantly until sauce thickens, around 2 to 3 minutes. Place cooked cauliflower in sauce and mix to coat in the sauce.*

  7. Enjoy while hot! Garnish with some sesame seeds, if desired.
