Crispy and Saucy Tofu Stir Fry

Is there anything better than a crispy and saucy tofu stir fry? Especially served with a bowl of rice! (more please!)

If you are looking for a tofu dish to serve with a bowl of warm rice, then you have come to the right place!( I am not joking! This dish is so ADDICTIVE! I can personally devour this whole bowl if I was alone!)

The fragrant combination of ginger, garlic and thai basil makes this dish so delicious, but what makes this dish so special is the fact that the tofu are so crispy even with the sauce!

To make this dish, all you have to do is coat tofu pieces with cornstarch, pan fry until crispy and then saute with the aromatic herbs before tossing it with some more delicious sauce!

Crispy and Saucy Tofu Stir Fry

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Servings: 2-3 servings


  • 14oz extra-firm tofu, drained and pat dry

  • 6-8 slices ginger⁣

  • 4-5 cloves garlic, sliced⁣

  • 1/2 bamboo shoots (optional)

  • 1 cup packed fresh Thai basil (optional)

  • A handful chopped scallion/green onion⁣

  • 1/2 cup corn starch for coating⁣ tofu

  • Oil for cooking⁣


  • 2 tbsp mirin

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce⁣

  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil⁣⁣

  • 2 tsp sugar⁣⁣

  • 1/4 cup water⁣⁣

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch and 3 tbsp water


  1. Mix all of the sauce ingredients in a bowl until well combined and set aside.⁣

  2. Pat tofu dry with paper towels & cut into cubes or desired shape. Place corn starch in a shallow bowl.⁣

  3. Preheat a non-stick pan with some cooking oil. coat tofu cubes in corn starch. Drop tofu pieces into the pan and pan-fry each side until crispy and golden brown. Remove & set aside.⁣

  4. With the same pan, add some cooking oil and sauté ginger until fragrant, about 5 minutes. Add garlic, chopped scallions & continue to sauté until aromatic. ⁣

  5. Pour in the sauce, turn heat to low & add tofu & basil(if using). Quickly toss tofu with the sauce until all of the ingredients are coated and combined.

  6. Turn off heat and serve warm with rice.⁣
